Transfers from Chambery to Samoens

Usually, the transfer time from Chambery to Samoens is less than 2 hours, though this can change due to traffic or adverse weather conditions. Samoens is a part of Grand Massif ski area, one of the top five ranked ski areas in France, therefore many powder-hungry skiers head there every year.

Route Details, Issues & Alternatives

The standard route from Chambery to Samoens (120km) will usually take you via route A41. Head for Route de l'Aeroport towards D1201 (Voglans). On the routes E712, A410 and A40/E25, head towards Avenue des Lacs/D304 (Scionzier). From A40/E25, take the exit 18 to Scionzier. Take the route D902 towards D4 (Morillon). If you know that weather or traffic may be bad, simply allow extra time for the journey. Always ask the driver about the best possible route.

 

What to Do En-Route

You don’t have to go straight to your chosen destination. If you want to stop along the trip, we will happily accommodate this. You can go outside, breathe in some fresh air or have a cup of tea.

There are some supermarkets en-route to Samoens. Should you get hungry on the way to the resort, you can choose a few snacks for the journey. Alternatively, take the opportunity to buy any travel essentials. Usually, prices in the supermarkets en-route are lower than in most of the ski resorts.

Samoens is located in the Haute-Savoie region of France, close to Mont Blanc. Enjoy the spectacular panoramas over the surrounding peaks of the French Alps during the journey. Don’t forget to get your camera out!

Journey Altitude

It’s important to understand that your journey from Chambery to Samoens will take you to a very high altitude. This can present its own potential complications.

Chambery airport sits at around 235m, while the altitude of Samoens village is around 700m and the ski area is at 1600m. Some passengers can experience mild discomforts, such as nausea, headaches and dizziness. Those can be symptoms of the change in altitude. Young children are often most at risk to feeling unwell.

As a result of the combination between air pressure changes and steep, serpentine roads, the journey can be difficult.,  Feel free ask your driver to lower the temperature in the vehicle to help you feel more comfortable.

The breathtaking landscapes around Mont Blanccan act as great distraction if you’re feeling unwell.

 

Samoens Ski Resort

Samoens is truly a unique ski resort – this old mountain village is the only French resort that has been classified as a ‘national monument’ by the Cassie Nationale des Monuments Historiques. The name “Samoëns” takes its roots from a mediaeval expression meaning “the seven mountains”, a reference to the peaks around the village - Cuidex, Vigny, Folly, Oddaz, Bostan, Chardonnière, Freterolles and La Vullie.

Located at the vast Grand Massif ski area, Samoens ski resort is linked to Flaine, Morrilon, Les Carroz and Sixt Fer à Cheval. Your ski pass will give you access to around 260km of pistes, serviced by 78 ski lifts.

Holder of the “P’tits Montagnards” resort label, the resort is ideal for families, big or small..  It’s home to one of the biggest beginner’s areas in France, giving children the perfect chance to get to grips with their skis.
