On average, a transfer from Milan airport to Bormio will take around 3 hours and 40 minutes, depending on the date, weather and traffic conditions. The direct route from Milan airport to Bormio (218 km) will usually take you via Strada Statale 36 del Lago di Como e dello Spluga and SS38. Take Strada Statale 336. Take the right lane and take the exit towards Aeroporto/A9/Como/Milano/Varese/Gravellona T./Busto Arsizio. At the SS336 and A36 head towards Via Nazionale dei Giovi/SP44. From SP35, take exit 15. Through SP32 go to Strada Statale 36 del Lago di Como e dello Spluga (Giussano). Continue driving on Strada Statale 36 del Lago di Como e dello Spluga towards Cosio Valtellino. Head to your end destination: Via Milano/Strada del Passo dello Stelvio/SS38 (Bormio). Always ask the driver about the best possible way to get to the resort. If there is bad weather or snow, you should plan extra time for your transfer.

 

What to Do En-Route

It can be hard to spend hours staying seated. If you want to stop at any stage of the trip to get up and walk around to stretch your legs and get a few minutes in the fresh air, we will happily accommodate this. That will help you stay comfortable during the long trip.

There are many supermarkets en-route to Bormio. If you will get hungry on your way to the ski resort, you can choose there a few snacks for the journey. Sometimes products bought on the way to Bormio are cheaper than those found in the resort itself. All shop visits should be pre-booked with Customer Support prior your arrival.

Journey Altitude

If you travel to a place at a higher altitude than you’re used to, it’s important to know that this can present some passengers with mild discomfort.  Your body will need time to adjust to the change in pressure.

Milan airport sits at 235m, while valley floor in Bormio, is at 1,225m above the sea level.  Nausea, headaches and dizziness can be symptoms of the change in air pressure. Young children are often those at risk to feeling unwell.

When you combine such air pressure change with steep, serpentine roads, the journey can be difficult for some people. If needed, ask your driver to lower the temperature in the vehicle to help you feel more comfortable.

Bormio is a beautiful medieval town with 4100 residents. The resort is nestled in Northern Italy, in the region Lombardia, near the Swiss and Austrian borders. Originally a thermal spa town, Bormio is famous for its terme or thermal baths, well-known since Roman times.

At Bormio Ski the offer to winter lovers is rich: a ski area with 50 km of slopes served by 15 functional and modern lifts, two freeride spots for extreme sports lovers and Snowpark Bormio. There's a great selection of other activities, such as paragliding: an expert pilot will help you to get an unforgettable experience of soaring in the air with a gentle to take off with skis or snowboard on from 2,600 meters. For the little ones, there is the Gormiti Park, the ideal place for kids to go sledding or to start off with their first skiing experiences.

Bormio is part of Alta Valtellina ski area with access to 184km of downhill skiing, with 112 individual pistes, served by 62 ski lifts. The appropriate ski pass will allow you to ski and snowboard in other Alta Valtellina ski resorts of Livigno and Santa Caterina.

Over the years Bormio ski resort annually hosted the World Cup Downhill Men and had been the house of the Alpine Ski World Cup in 1985 and 2005.
