Journey Altitude

When travelling at very high altitudes, it’s important to know that this journey can present some passengers with mild discomfort. Thin air with less oxygen and decreased atmospheric pressure can be tough on your system, particularly if you’re not used to it.

Milan airport sits at 235m, while La Thuile is located at an altitude of 1,441 meters above sea level. Nausea, headaches and dizziness can be symptoms of the change in air pressure. Young children are often those who are at risk to feeling unwell.

As a result of the combination between such air pressure and steep, serpentine roads, the journey can be difficult. In this situation, ask your driver to lower the temperature in the vehicle to help you feel more comfortable.

It may not be the best feeling in the world if you are not feeling well, the beautiful views of La Thuile Valley can act as great medicine for you.

La Thuile Ski Resort

Originally a mining town, La Thuile village dates back to the Roman era. Nestled on the border of Italy and France, in end of the Aosta Valley, this traditional old village with authentic Tarentaise wood and stone architecture is now a purpose-built ski resort with a modern lift-base complex. La Thuile is sharing its ski domain with the French resort La Rosière.

La Thuile is part of the international ski resort known as Espace San Bernardo ski area with access to 160km of downhill skiing, with 77 individual pistes, served by 37 ski lifts. The appropriate ski Lift Pass will allow you to ski or snowboard in the other Espace San Bernardo ski resort of La Rosière. Single ski pass gains access to cross-country trails and heliskiing on the Rutor and Miravidi glaciers. The Aosta Valley is one of few ski areas where heliskiing is still allowed in Italy.

La Thuile offers great skiing to all abilities - with its extensive easy slopes, and free childcare, the resort is particularly good for families.
