Transfers from Grenoble Airport to Chamonix

On average, the transfer from Grenoble to Chamonix will take approximately 3 hours depending on time, traffic and road conditions. Chamonix is a sensational ski resort with beautiful panorama views towards Mont Blanc, which can be very busy and if you are travelling at peak times you can expect to encounter some traffic and waiting.

Route Details, Issues & Alternatives

The shortest route from Grenoble airport to Chamonix (2 hours 11 minutes and 224km), will usually take you via D119 motorway. Take A48, A43/E70, A41, A410 and A40/Е25 towards Route Blanche/D1506 (Chamonix-Mont-Blanc). From N205 route exit onto Congress D1506. Then on Route Blanche/D1506, Avenue de Sigmaeye Allée Recteur Payot head to the destination.

The second option is 65 km longer, take the same D119 motorway, than A48, A43, A432, A42/E611 and A40 towards Route Blanche/D1506 (Chamonix-Mont-Blanc). From N205 route exit onto Congress D1506. Then on Route Blanche/D1506, Avenue de Sigmaeye Allée Recteur Payot head to the destination.

The third option is the longest in terms of time (almost 3 hours, 242 km). Start with D119 motorway. Continue at D119, A48 and A43/E70 head to the side D916B (Belmont-Tramonet). From A43 / E70, take the exit 11. Through D1516, D1504 and D992 exit onto the A40 (Eloise). Continue driving on the A40 to your destination (Chamonix-Mont-Blanc). With the N205 exit onto Congress D1506. On Route Blanche/D1506, Avenue de Sigmaeye Allée Recteur Payot head to your destination.

Always ask the driver about the best possible route. If there is bad weather or snow, just plan extra time for your transfer.

 

What to Do En-Route

You don’t have to go straight to your dream ski destination. If you wish to stop at any stage of the trip to stretch your legs or breathe a fresh air, we will happily accommodate this.

There are many supermarkets on your way to Chamonix. You can buy some snacks for the journey or necessary ski holiday essentials before you get to the ski resort. Sometimes products bought on the way to ski resort can be cheaper comparing to those found in the resort stores.

Chamonix village is located in the heart of the Mont Blanc area, you can enjoy incredible views during your trip. Prepare your camera in advance in order not to miss fantastic pictures!

Journey Altitude

It’s important to know that your journey from Grenoble to Chamonix ski resort will take you to a very high altitude. This can present its own potential complications.

Grenoble airport sits at almost 400m, the highest lift in Chamonix has an altitude of 3,840m. This journey can present some passengers with mild discomfort. Nausea, headaches and dizziness can be symptoms of the change in air pressure. Young children also are the ones at risk of feeling unwell.

When you combine such air pressure change with steep, serpentine roads, the journey sometimes can be difficult. If necessary, ask your driver to lower the temperature in the vehicle to help you feel more comfortable.

When feeling especially unwell, the picturesque side of Mont Blanc can be the perfect medicine.
