Transfers from Geneva Airport to Abondance

On average, a transfer from Geneva Airport to Abondance will take around 1 hour and 30 minutes, though this may see significant changes depending on the time of your travel. Abondance is a very popular ski resort in the French Alps, which often results in long traffic jams for a considerable part of the journey.

Route Details, Issues & Alternatives

The direct route from Geneva Airport to Abondance (98,7km) will usually take you via route A40. On A1 and A40/E25 move towards Route de Bons en Chablais/D903 (Saint-Cergues, France). From D1206 turn to exit in the direction of Machilly/Saint-Cergues/Bons-en-Chablais/Thonon. Through D903 move to D1005 (Thonon-les-Bains). Follow D1005 to your destination (Avenue de la Dranse / D902). From D1005, take exit 1. Take the D21 and D32 towards D22 (La Chapelle-d'Abondance, France). Always ask the driver about the best possible way to get to the resort. If there is bad weather or snow, you should plan extra time for your transfer.

 

What to Do En-Route

You can always ask your driver for a shortstop (up to 10 minutes). If you want to stop at any stage of the trip to get up and walk around to stretch your legs and get a few minutes in the fresh air, we will happily accommodate this.

There are some supermarkets en-route to Abondance. You can find here some snacks for the journey or buy your much-needed ski holiday essentials. Sometimes products bought on the way are way cheaper than those found in the resort itself. Bear in mind, that all shop visits should be pre-booked with Customer Support prior to your arrival.

Abondance has a fantastic location – in the Abondance valley, 30km from Lake Geneva, on the River Dranse. Enjoy spectacular views during the trip and make sure you have your camera ready!

Journey Altitude

It’s important to remember that your journey from Geneva to Abondance will take you to a very high altitude. This can present its own potential complications.

Geneva airport sits at 430m, while Abondance sits at an altitude of 1,000m. Nausea, headaches and dizziness, can be the symptoms of the change in air pressure. Young children are especially prone to feeling unwell.

When you combine such air pressure change with steep and serpentine roads, the journey may be difficult for some people. If needed, ask your driver to lower the temperature in the vehicle to help you feel more comfortable.
