Get to know Chamonix Ski Resort

Chamonix is a world-class ski destination and a hiker’s dream, with adventurers flocking to the resort all year round. Chamonix is close to the France-Switzerland border, which explains why the views are hard to beat. From the Aiguilles de Chamonix, glaciers, waterfalls and snowy peaks, it’s a picture-postcard ski resort that’s popular all year round.

But, she’s not just a pretty face. Chamonix is a busy town, with a lively energy that appeals to local and international travellers. The 365-playground has it all for outdoor lovers, from skiing and snowboarding to hiking, biking, and rafting. Whether you’re chasing adrenaline or après-ski, Chamonix should be on your bucket list.

Skiing and activities in Chamonix

Chamonix is one of the world’s most famed mountain destinations, known as the birthplace of extreme skiing. Chamonix has deep valleys, challenging runs, and dramatic terrain; the holy trinity for the world’s top athletes.

Chamonix isn’t just for the pros. The resort offers many beginner slopes, intermediate runs, and ski schools. Outside of skiing, there’s world-class hiking trails, rafting, climbing, and glacier walking. Not to mention a buzzing nightlife and ample restaurants. Whether you’re planning a family holiday, skiing with friends, or an adventure to test your limits, Chamonix is the perfect destination.

Chamonix skiing: an overview

Chamonix is a champion of versatility, with skiing for all levels. Chamonix has four nursery areas for beginners: Les Planards, Les Chosalets, Le Savoy, and La Vormaine. Kids as young as three can join the Chamonix Ski School. Snow rafting at Paradis des Praz adds extra fun for the little ones.

Intermediate skiers will love the long blue and red runs in La Flegere, Les Houches and Les Grands Montets. Expert skiers can tackle the challenging black runs at Grands Montets. Brèvent and Flégère also provide exhilarating trails.

Tackle off-piste skiing in the legendary Vallée Blanche and find freestyle terrains in Le Tour and La Flegere. Snowboarders have two snowparks to play, Les Grands Montets and Les Houches.

Non-skiing activities in Chamonix

Non-skiers, you won’t be bored. Get a lift pass and join your friends for some après-ski fun, or keep yourself busy with husky sledding, train rides with unforgettable views, or if you’re up for a challenge, go ski touring or ice climbing. See the resort from a different perspective. Gaze at Mont Blanc from the sky with paragliding, or explore from the ground by snowshoeing. Whatever your preference, Chamonix has incredible winter activities to keep everyone entertained.

Things to do in Chamonix town

If you’re staying firmly off the slopes or taking a day off, head to the indoor ice skating rink or catch a movie at the cinema. Soak up some culture in the town’s museums or exhibitions, or try your luck at the casino. If unwinding is on the cards, Chamonix has many spa and wellness facilities, or you can fully relax with some yoga. There’s fun for all on and off the slopes.

Family-friendly and kids’ fun in Chamonix

There’s no shortage of family fun in Chamonix. Kids can go snow rafting at Paradis des Praz or join the Chamonix Ski School. Non-skiers can enjoy sledging, swimming, paintballing, and adventure parks. Despite its reputation for professional slopes, Chamonix offers skiing, off-piste activities, and accommodation that make it a family-friendly destination.

Explore the lesser-known trails and hidden gems in Chamonix by speaking to the locals. Which reminds us, don’t miss out on the local cuisine including cheeses and charcuterie, the ultimate picnic bites.
