Lyon Airport to Val Thorens 3 Valleys Transfers

Alps2Alps offers regular and timely airport transfers to your ski destinations. If you’re planning to enjoy the pleasures of skiing on the highest ski resort in Europe, ensure that your booking is done with a trusted and reliable airport transfer provider.

Below you will find everything you need to know about your journey to the Three Valleys ski resort and some useful information as to why our clients choose Alps2Alps for their transfer service.

Transfers from Lyon to Val Thorens

Normally, transfers from Lyon airport to Val Thorens will take around 3 and a half hours – while it may seem lengthy, it can be shorter depending on travel conditions.

The resort possesses the largest ski area in the world, so travelling at peak times can be challenging at times.

However, Alps2Alps will always ensure you have a smooth and comfortable journey. We strongly recommend travelling during midweek to cut down on your journey time and guarantee more time on the slopes.

Route Details, Issues & Alternatives

The shortest route from Lyon airport to the resort (199km, 3 hours 30 minutes) will usually take you via route A43 (E70) to Albertville, via Chambery, and then via national road N90 to Moutiers. You should take D117 towards Grande Rue (Saint-Martin-de-Belleville) and continue along the Grande Rue to Val Thorens.

As always, you can ask our drivers about the best possible routes, along with any other questions you have.

What to Do on the Way

You don’t have to go straight to your ski destination. If you’d like to stop at any stage of the trip to stretch your legs or to have a cup of tea, we will happily accommodate this.

If you feel hungry on your way to the resort, there are several supermarkets en route for our driver to stop by. Grab a few snacks and some drinks for the rest of the road trip!

You’ll also notice that the supermarket charges less than the shops in the resort, so this could be an ideal way to give yourself a little head start and save some money.

Val Thorens is the ideal playground for mountain lovers. The ski area lets you enjoy magnificent views of the legendary Glacier de Péclet from the Cime de Caron which, according to the Michelin Green Guide, has “the most beautiful view in the Alps”.  Here, you will also get the chance to enjoy a breath-taking 360° panoramic view over more than 100 Alpine summits.

When it comes to ski rental, you don’t have to wait until you get to the ski resort. Instead, you can pick them up en-route at our ski rental shop in Albertville.

Journey Altitude

It’s important to know that your journey will take you through very high altitudes, which can potentially cause issues for some visitors.

Lyon airport sits at around 200m and the main village of Val Thorens is situated at 2300m. That’s quite a climb to make!

Some passengers may experience discomfort, such as nausea, headaches and dizziness, all of which are symptoms of the air pressure change. Young children are often among those who are most affected.

When you combine the change in air pressure with steep, serpentine roads, the journey can become difficult for some people. You can always ask your driver to lower the temperature in the vehicle to help you feel more comfortable.

The Ski Resort

Val Thorens has the highest altitude of any ski resort in Europe (2300m) and is at the highest point in the 3 Valleys ski area.

The resort is located at the head of the Belleville valley with 99% of the ski area situated above 2,000 metres. Situated in a vast natural cirque overlooked by 6 glaciers, the Val Thorens ski area offers a multitude of itineraries so you can ski in the sunshine all day long. The ski season here is the longest you’ll find in Europe. Val Thorens’ high altitude guarantees the resort plenty of fresh snow from November to May.

The Three Valleys is made up of 3 main resorts: Val Thorens, Meribel and Courchevel. The 3 Valleys ski pass will give you access to more than 600 km of runs, serviced by 180 ski lifts. Val Thorens suits everyone from beginners to experts and is equipped with a good range of terrain to accommodate all ability levels.

Situated around 26km from the city centre, Lyon Airport is located east of the biggest city of the Auvergne-Rhone-Alps.  During peak season at ski resorts, we advise you to prebook your Val Thorens airport transfers to avoid any unnecessary waiting.

How Much Will Your TransferCost?

At Alps2Alps, we aim to offer the best value transfers as well as offering a fantastic service. We like to take a transparent approach to pricing structure. We take a number of factors into consideration when calculating our quotes.

These factors include:

  • Your journey

  • The number of people travelling

  • The day and time of travel

  • Any discounts available

When calculating transfer fares, we start with our standard price and then reduce this based on the factors mentioned above. This dynamic approach means we only decrease our prices and never increase them.

Pricing is also affected by other factors such as vehicle availability, transfer schedule, vehicle utilisation and additional costs such as road tolls and parking charges.

Midweek Transfers

By travelling midweek you can avoid long traffic jams and lower your costs up to 60%! More discounts are available for travelling off-season and off-peak which means cheaper flights and cheaper hotels.

Take a look on our special offers available for travelling off-season and off-peak.
