The most direct route from Milan airport to Sestriere (232km) will usually take you via routes A4/E64 and A32/E70. Take Strada Statale 336. Take the right lane and take the exit towards Aeroporto Cargo City / Torino/Milano / SR11 / Novara. Take SS336 direction, A4/E64 and A32 / E70 towards Pierremenaud (Oulx). From A32/E70 take exit 9-Oulx Circ.ne. Once you come off the motorway at Oulx follow the signs for Sestriere. If there are bad weather and snow, just plan extra time for your transfer. Always ask the driver about the best possible route.

 

What to Do En-Route

You don’t have to be in a hurry and go directly to your destination. Ask your driver for a short stop (up to 10 minutes) - if you’d like to stop at any stage to stretch your legs or get a fresh air, we will happily accommodate this.

There are plenty of supermarkets en-route to Sestriere. You can buy some snacks for the journey or your much-needed ski holiday essentials before you get to the resort. Sometimes products bought on the way to ski resort can be cheaper than those found in the resort stores. All shop visits should be pre-booked with Customer Support prior your arrival.

Sestriere is located between two valleys, Susa and Chisone. The journey is very beautiful because of the incredible mountains scenery. Take your camera, get excited, and start snapping.

 

Journey Altitude

It’s important to remember that your journey from Milan airport to Sestriere will take you to a very high altitude. To some passengers, this can present its own potential complications.

Milan airport sits at 235m, while Sestriere sits at an altitude of 2035m. If you’re not used to high altitude, you could be susceptible to altitude sickness, also known as Acute Mountain Sickness. Nausea, headaches and dizziness can be symptoms of the change in air pressure. Young children are particularly prone to feeling unwell.

When you combine this air pressure change with steep, serpentine roads, the journey can be difficult for some people. If needed, ask your driver to lower the temperature in the vehicle to help you feel more comfortable.

Sestriere Ski Resort

Sestriere was one of the world’s first purpose-built ski resorts way back in the 1930s. Sestriere is located in the northern Italy, in the Piemonte county, close to the French borders. Sitting at the very heart of the famous Via Lattea (which is also known as the “Milky Way” ski area) Sestriere and nearby Borgata, is the perfect home base for ski fans.  

Sestrière is part of the Milky Way ski area with access to 933km of downhill skiing, with 598 individual pistes, served by 175 ski lifts. In addition to the skiing in Sestrière itself (400km of pisted ski runs), the appropriate ski Lift Pass will allow you to ski or snowboard in the other Milky Way ski resorts of Sauze d’Oulx, Sansicario, Claviere and Montgenevre.
