Transfers from Salzburg to Mayrhofen

On average, transfers from Salzburg to Mayrhofen will take around 2 hours 30 minutes though this may see significant changes depending on seasonal traffic and road conditions. Route Details, Issues & Alternatives

The direct route from Salzburg to Mayrhofen (170km), will usually take you via route A8. Through route, B1 go to A8 (Bad Reichenhall, Deutschland). On A8, A93 and A12 head towards Achensee Str./B181 (Wiesing, Österreich). From A12/E60 take the exit number 39 to the Zillertal and from there a further 28 km on the B169 to Mayrhofen. Always ask the driver about the best possible route. If there is bad weather or snow, just plan extra time for your transfer.


What to Do En-Route

You don’t necessary have to go straight to your ski resort. Ask your driver for a short stop (up to 10 minutes) - if you wish to stop at any stage of the trip to stretch your legs or to have a cup of tea, we will happily accommodate this.

There are several supermarkets on your way to Mayrhofen. You can buy there some snacks for the journey or necessary ski holiday essentials before you get to the resort. Sometimes products bought on the way to ski resort can be cheaper than those found in the resort stores. Please note that all shop visits should be pre-booked with Customer Support prior your arrival.

The Mayrhofen ski resort is located at the end of the Zillertal Valley and stretches across multiple mountains. You can enjoy magnificent mountain views during your trip.

Journey Altitude

It’s important to know that your journey from Salzburg to Mayrhofen will take you to a very high altitude. This can present its own potential complications.

Salzburg airport sits at 430m, while Mayrhofen sits at an altitude of 630m. This journey can present some passengers with mild discomfort. Nausea, headaches and dizziness can be symptoms of the change in air pressure. Young children are especially prone to develop altitude sickness. 

When you combine this air pressure change with steep, serpentine roads, the journey sometimes can be difficult. If needed, ask your driver to lower the temperature in the vehicle to help you feel more comfortable.

Mayrhofen Ski Resort

Mayrhofen is one of Austria's most famous resorts and one of the biggest ski resorts in the Zillertal Valley. Mayrhofen has ski areas on both sides of the valley – the Ahorn ski area is ideal for beginners and families, while the Penken ski area has some of the best and varied terrains in the region and is ideal for intermediates, expert level skiers and snowboarders.  The Penken area is where the action is: it has the steepest groomed piste in Austria named Harakiri, great intermediate ski safaris out into the lift and piste which is linked with Zillertal 3000 region and the world famous Vans Penken Park. 

Mayrhofen is part of the Zillertal 3000 ski area with access to 489km of downhill skiing, with 91 individual pistes, served by 177 ski lifts.  In addition to the skiing in Mayrhofen itself (136km of pisted ski runs), the appropriate ski Lift Pass will allow you to ski or snowboard in the other Zillertal ski resorts that includes Tux-Finkenberg, Fugen, Hippach and the Hintertux Glacier, together offering 245 km pistes, 67 lifts and year-round skiing on the Hintertux Glacier.
