Samoens is located in the Giffre Valley in the Rhône-Alpes region in the south-east of France. This ski resort is one of the five resorts located in the Grand Massif area, at the foot of the majestic Tête des Saix (2120m). From the top station, there is a magnificent panoramic view. With neighbouring resorts Flaine, Les Carroz, Morillon, Sixt, Samoens is connected by road and cable cars.

Despite the rapid growth of ski tourism and the development of sports infrastructure at the resorts of Grand Massif, Samoens remains virtually untouched, and still retains the charm of the French Alpine village. A picturesque French village with deep traditions is classified as a historical monument. In the central part, there are preserved ancient houses and churches of the 17th century, keeping the secrets of the masonry masters of the time.

Ski Resort Location

The Samoens ski resort is situated in the Haute Savoie region, in a beautiful location between Annecy Lake, Chamonix and Mont Blanc in the heart of the Rhône Alpes department. The mountains around Samoens are characterized by relatively low altitudes, the village is famous for karst sediments and underground caves of unusual depth.

From time immemorial, stone was a traditional occupation of people in the valley, which is covered with limestone quarries. The income from agriculture was not enough, people in the region had to deal with the processing of stone. In 1659 there was created a brotherhood of masons that was engaged in charity, took care of the sick, and trained young students in their own drawing school.

Evidence of their work can still be seen in the architecture of the village, and even today a number of stonemasons are steadfastly observing traditions, and the Brotherhood has become a cultural association. Samoens is the only winter resort in France, referred to the monuments of national heritage.

For the younger generation of skiers, they also have prepared a children's training ground with a ribbon lift, a ski kindergarten for children from 3 months to 6 years old and numerous ski schools.

The entertainment program for children includes the museum "Ecomusée du Clos Parchet", which invites you to make a historical excursion to the old peasant courtyard high in the Alps. And also an excursion to the large botanical garden "Jardin Botanique Alpin Jaysinia", founded in 1906, which stretches over an area of about three hectares.
