Did you know Les Menuires (Meun-oo-ears) was criticised for its architecture? The buildings were “too urban” for what’s expected for a holiday in the mountains. Despite the negative reviews, the resort continued to develop and improve its facilities, including the construction of a tall tower that can be seen throughout the resort, which won an award for its steel structure.

Today, sixty years later, the resort is well-known for its architecture on the positive side. Les Menuires welcomes people from all over the world and is a popular destination for families.

Skiing and activities in Les Menuires

Les Menuires ski resort has a range of activities on and off the slopes—summer or winter season. From skiing and snowboarding to ice skating and snowshoeing, the resort is adaptable for skiers and non-skiers. Many après-ski activities, like visiting numerous restaurants to try French cuisine or bars to unwind after a long ski day, are available.

Some restaurants opened in the winter season are “Croc’vallée” and “Chez Pepe Nicolas.”. In the summer season, you have restaurants with outdoor service like “Hillary Hotel” and “La Fromagerie des Belleville.” Fancy the famous crepes and hot chocolate? Find it on welcome breaks and bars like “Grizzly’s” and “Bar et Club Le Leeberty.”.

Les Menuires skiing: an overview

From high altitudes for advanced skiers to more easy routes for beginners, Les Menuires got you covered. The ski season is open from December to April with reliable snow throughout the whole time. February is a beautiful period to visit as you get to go down the slopes with sunny skies. If you’re visiting during this time, you can sense the smell of wood in the air due to the fireplaces.

Now, if you’re not a ski expert, please use the areas with the blue runs. Leave the other runs to the more confident skiers so everyone can enjoy a good time without any issues. Some runs are the Bouquetin, Jerusalem, which provides an iconic panoramic view of the Alps, and the Roc des 3 Marches. Attention to the first section of this slope as it’s very steep. If you’re up for the effort, this is suitable for families. You can always check the official website for real-time weather information and snow depth updates.

Non-skiing activities in Les Menuires

You can still explore the dreamy panoramic views without skiing. To start experiencing snow-based activities, you have biathlon lessons, which are great if you want to experience laser rifle shooting. Another alternative is snow scooter driving. You can do it during the night as well.

A piste basher ride is an option where you have a sneak peek behind the scenes and learn how the professionals prepare the snow for the next day each night. Lastly, a very popular non-ski activity is snowshoeing. You can do it in the morning and evenings as well. They will provide you with equipment and transportation to the beginning of the trail.

Things to do in Les Menuires town

There are a few options if you want to get away from the slopes and do stuff in the town. You can visit one of the three libraries: Mairie déléguée de Saint-Jean-de-Belleville and Belleville municipal libraries. Then, throughout the summer and winter seasons, there are always events going on, like festivals and yoga workshops. Some events are free-entry. In addition to it, why not treat yourself and the family to a day in the spa? There are a few open every day in town. Hours may vary. The spa includes a sauna and jacuzzi. Perfect to unwind after a long day in the ski area.

Family-friendly and kids’ fun in Les Menuires

It’s never enough to mention how family-friendly Les Menuires is. You can start by booking an igloo activity where children get to experience how to build an igloo with snow shovels included. Warm clothes are required. This activity is available every Tuesday and Thursday, and children must be older than 5 and younger than 13 years old.
