Usually, a transfer from Chambery to Flaine will take approximately 2 hours depending on time, weather, traffic and road conditions. Flaine is a popular ski destination, it can be very busy and if you are travelling at high times you can expect to encounter some traffic and waiting.

Route Details, Issues & Alternatives

Chambery airport is ideally located next to the A41 auto route within a two hour's’ drive of Flaine (135 km). Head for Route de l'aéroport towards D1201 (Voglans). On E712, A410, A40/E25 head towards Route de Chamonix/D1205 (Cluses). From A40/E25 turn to exit 19 towards Flaine/Cluses-Centre. Take D6 and D106 and head to your end destination (Arâches-la-Frasse).

Always ask the driver about the best possible route. If there is bad weather or snow, just plan extra time for your transfer.

 

What to Do En-Route

You don’t have to go straight to your ski resort. Ask your driver for a short stop (up to 10 minutes) - if you wish to stop at any stage of the trip to stretch your legs, have a cup of coffee or breathe a fresh air, we will happily accommodate this.

There are numerous supermarkets on your way to Flaine. Sometimes products bought on the way to ski resort can be cheaper comparing to those found in the resort stores. You can choose there a few snacks for the journey or buy necessary ski holiday essentials before you get to the ski resort. Bear in mind, that all shop visits should be pre-booked with Customer Support prior your arrival.

Flaine is located in the Haute-Savoie region, between Geneva and Chamonix Mont-Blanc, you will enjoy spectacular views during your trip. Get your camera ready, never miss a moment to take fantastic pictures! 

Renting skis? Don’t wait till you get to the resort, pick these up on your way. We have ski rental shops in Albertville and Geneva. Journey Altitude

It’s important to understand that your journey from Chambery to Flaine ski resort will take you to a very high altitude. This can present its own potential problems and complications.

Chambery airport sits at around 235m, while Flaine resort centre is situated at 1,600 metres. Some passengers may experience some discomfort, such as nausea, headaches and dizziness can be symptoms of the change in air pressure. Young children are the ones who feel especially unwell.

When you combine such air pressure change with steep, serpentine roads, the journey sometimes can be hard. If necessary, ask your driver to lower the temperature in the vehicle to help you feel more comfortable.

It’s not the best feeling in the world when you are not feeling well, but the picturesque mountains can be the perfect medicine for you.

 

Flaine Ski Resort

Flaine is part of the Grand Massif and is known as the “big snowy bowl”. The resort was purposely built on the mountain for direct access to some of the greatest terrain around. Flaine is also known as a “fly in, ski in/ski out” resort, a ski lift or piste is always near.

Flaine is the highest resort in the Grand Massif ski area and links the resorts of Les Carroz, Morillon, Samoens and Sixt. The resort is built on 3 levels: “Flaine-Foret” (1700m), “Flaine-Forum” (1600m) and Flaine-Front de Neige” at (1500m). The resorts are permanently linked by two lifts and pedestrian paths.

Flaine has the access to 140km of pisted ski runs, 51 individual pistes, served by 26 ski lifts. Appropriate ski Lift pass will give you the access to ski or snowboard in the other Grand Massif ski resorts (265 km) of Les Carroz, Morillion, Samoens and Sixt Fer a Cheval.
