An alternative route will take you via the Moutiers, before travelling up the Belleville valley. This route can be very difficult when it’s cold as there are certain corners where ice forms.

A third option would be to use the motorway in extreme weather conditions.

It’s important to remember that getting to Val Thorens will take you to a very high altitude. This presents its own potential complications.

 

Geneva airport sits at 430m, while the main village of Val Thorens 3 Valleys is at 2300m. Passengers can experience some discomfort, such as nausea, headaches and dizziness due to the change in air pressure. Young children are often particularly prone to feeling unwell.

 

When you combine this air pressure change with steep, serpentine roads, the journey can be difficult for some people. If needed, ask your driver to lower the temperature in the vehicle to help you feel more comfortable.
