Transfers from Grenoble to Val Thorens 3 Valleys

Typically, airport transfers from Grenoble to Val Thorens will take around 3 hours 10 minutes depending on traffic, weather and road conditions.

Its should be noted that Val Thorens is the largest ski resort in the world and is situated on the highest mountain in Europe. If you plan to travel during peak season, you can expect a lot of queues and waiting.

Route Details, Issues & Alternatives

The standard route from Grenoble to Val Thorens 3 Valleys (198km) will take you via route D117.

  • Take the road D119. From D1085, A48, A480, N87 and N90 head towards D117 (Salins-les-Thermes).

  • From N90, take exit 40. On the road D117 head to your destination (Saint-Martin-de-Belleville).

A second option is slightly different and will take you via route D1006.

  • Take the road D119. Head for Chemin Neuf, Route de Charavines and D50A towards Route de Chartreuse/D1075 (Chirens).

  • From D49, D520, D1006, N201 and N90 head towards D117 (Salins-les-Thermes). From N90, take exit 40.

  • On the road D117 head to your destination (Saint-Martin-de-Belleville).

A third option is via road D119.

  • Continue on the D119 to your destination (Oyeu).

  • Head for Route des Plaines/D17 and D50 towards Route de Grenoble / D1075 (La Bâtie-Divisin).

  • Continue on the D1075.  

  • Head for D592 towards Place de la Bouverie/D1516 (Saint-Genix-sur-Guiers).

  • Take D1516 in the direction of the D1504 (La Balme).

  • Continue driving on the D1504.

  • From N201, D1006, D1090 and N90 head towards D117 (Salins-les-Thermes).

  • Continue along D117 to your end destination (Saint-Martin-de-Belleville).

Val Thorens is home to the grandiose spectacle of the legendary Glacier de Péclet from the Cime de Caron. The breath-taking 360° panoramic view over more than 100 Alpine summits (French, Swiss and Italian) is impressive as it is beautiful.

 

Journey Altitude

It’s important to know that your journey will take you to extremely high altitudes. This may cause issues for some visitors.

Grenoble airport sits at around 397m, while the main village of Val Thorens is at 2300m. Some passengers can experience discomfort, such as nausea, headaches and dizziness, which are common symptoms to the change in altitude. Young children are especially prone to these symptoms.

When you combine the change in air pressure with the steep, serpentine roads, the journey can become difficult for some. If needed, ask your driver to lower the temperature in the vehicle to help you feel more comfortable.

 

The Ski Resort

Val Thorens is one of Europe’s highest altitude resorts (2300m), located in the middle of the famous 3 Valleys in the French Alps. Sitting at the head of the beautiful Belleville Valley, Val Thorens is the highest point in the 3 Valleys ski area with one of the most impressive panoramas in the French Alps.

Nestled in a vast natural cirque overlooked by 6 glaciers, the famous ski resort offers a multitude of itineraries, keeping you occupied all day long.

The ski season in Val Thorens is the longest you’ll find in Europe: the resort’s high altitude means that it is covered with snow from November to May.
