Transfers from Lyon Airport to La Plagne

On average, a transfer from Lyon to La Plagne will take approximately 2,5 -3 hours depending on the time of year, weather and road conditions. La Plagne with its average of 2.5 million visitors per season is one of the most popular ski resorts in the world. Be aware that if travelling at peak times, the resort can become very busy and you can expect to encounter some traffic and waiting. Route Details, Issues & Alternatives

The shortest route from Lyon airport to La Plagne (2 hours 18 minutes and 195km), will usually take you via Saint-Laurent-de-Mure. Take A43, E70, A430 and N90 and head to the destination (Aime). Take the A43/E70 motorway towards Turin/Albertville/Saint-Jean-De-Maurienne/Milan. Take the A430 motorway (Albertville). Continue on the A430 motorway. Take the N90 road. Then go to Aime, just before the Aime takes the exit to the right towards Aime and La Plagne. Continue on the D221 towards D223 (La Plagne Tarentaise).

Always ask the driver about the best possible route. If there is bad weather or snow, just plan extra time for your transfer.

 

What to Do En-Route

You don’t need to go immediately to your ski destination, if needed you can ask your driver for a short stop (up to 10 minutes).  If you wish to stop at any stage of the trip to stretch your legs or breathe a fresh air, we will happily accommodate this.

There are some supermarkets en-route to La Plagne. You can buy some snacks for the journey or necessary ski holiday essentials before you get to the ski resort. La Plagne ski resort has numerous supermarkets and shops, but sometimes products bought on the way to ski resort can be cheaper comparing to those found in the resort stores. Please, bear in mind, that all shop visits should be pre-booked with Customer Support prior your arrival.

La Plagne is located in the alpine valley of the Tarentaise, on the edge of the Vanoise National Park. Enjoy the wonderful sights of the mountains during your airport transfer. Take your camera in order not to miss fantastic pictures!

Journey Altitude

It’s important to know that your journey from Lyon to La Plagne ski resort will take you to a very high altitude. This can present its own potential problems and complications.

Lyon airport sits at almost 200m, while the main village of La Plagne is at 1930m. This journey can present some passengers with further problems, such as: nausea, headaches and dizziness. Young children are the ones at risk group to feel unwell.

When you combine this air pressure change with steep, serpentine roads, the journey can be difficult for some passengers. If needed, ask your driver to lower the temperature in the vehicle to help you feel more comfortable.

La Plagne ski resort is made up of 11 small, purposely built villages, connected by ski lifts and shuttle buses. La Plagne ski area offers you over 225 km of downhill skiing and 134 individual pistes, accessible with a single pass. La Plagne is ideal place for beginners and intermediates. With the majority of slopes north-facing and set between 2,000m and 2700m, making most of La Plagne’s slopes snow sure. In addition, La Plagne is part of the famous Paradiski ski area and is linked to Les Arcs by the Vanoise Express - world’s largest cable car. The spectacular double-decker Vanoise Express will get you to the neighbouring Les Arcs in just 4 minutes! Paradiski ski area of La Plagne and Les Arcs offers over 425kms of skiing.

The resort has a wide selection of family-friendly activities such as dog sledging, zip lining, ice climbing and bobsleighing. Visitors can enjoy the only Olympic Bobsleigh Piste in France, which is still used for the famous world and European events and is the most popular of La Plagne’s attractions.
